Berth and yard supervisors at the port
They are first on scene when a lashing, a sling or a vehicle injures someone, and often have to guide the ambulance in.
Kakinada is easy to describe by its offshore link, yet the cargo tells a wider story. ICRA's 2025 note on Kakinada Seaports lists the port's captive cargo as fertiliser raw materials for Coromandel's DAP plant in the city, edible oil for the refineries here, and raw and bagged sugar for a sugar refinery, and puts total throughput at 17.8 million tonnes in 2024-25. On top of that comes offshore supply vessel traffic for the KG basin. A single berth can therefore be handling bulk acid inputs, drums, sacks and supply-vessel stores in the same shift.
Coromandel's Kakinada complex is the company's largest phosphatic fertiliser site, with capacity of around 2 million tonnes reported, and it has been adding phosphoric and sulphuric acid plants. Process plants have their own emergency teams, and nothing in a half-day course replaces them or their procedures. What the course gives is a trained pair of hands in the minutes before the plant team or an ambulance reaches the patient: stopping heavy bleeding, cooling a burn, managing a casualty who has collapsed. Chemical exposure response belongs in plant procedure and in our separate hazardous-materials course.
Weather and workplace mix matter too. May and early June are Kakinada's hottest weeks, with daytime highs commonly in the high thirties to low forties Celsius, and the course's environmental module deals with heat illness and poisoning. The same module covers hypothermia and cold injury, which is relevant if your site has cold stores for seafood, since prawns and fish form part of the city's export trade.
The legal context is worth reading before you book. Section 45 of the Factories Act, 1948, leaves it to the State Government to recognise the first-aid certificate that the person in charge of a factory first-aid box must hold. The Andhra Pradesh Factories Rules, 1950 carry a rule on first-aid appliances, and we could not read its detail, so we do not state it here. The central labour code, the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, came into force on 21 November 2025, and state rules under it are still being framed. An iMost certificate is not a state-recognised first-aid certificate, and we do not claim it is.
17.8 million tonnes handled in 2024-25, with fertiliser inputs, edible oil, sugar and offshore supply vessels in the mix, per ICRA.
The company's largest phosphatic site; expanding its phosphoric and sulphuric acid capacity on the same campus.
Named by ICRA as sources of port cargo: imported crude edible oil for refineries in Kakinada and a sugar refinery exporting bagged sugar.
Offshore vessel traffic serving the KG basin passes through the same port as bulk cargo.
Highs commonly 38 to 42 degrees Celsius, which is why the heat-illness module matters locally.
They are first on scene when a lashing, a sling or a vehicle injures someone, and often have to guide the ambulance in.
Contract workers outnumber permanent staff during maintenance campaigns, and a supervisor who can start CPR helps during the gap before the plant team arrives.
Falls from stacks, hand injuries from machinery and cold exposure are everyday risks in stores and processing sheds.
Road collisions around the port and highway need quick recovery-position and bleeding-control skills.
Riggers, store keepers and dispatchers work alongside lifting plant and vessels, and can be called on before help arrives.
They want skills beyond a box of dressings, and a certificate that shows what each person was taught.
Choose Basic First Aid when you want more people on shift who can act in an emergency, and the certificate is for internal competence or for a client's general safety list. Ask your factory inspector or Factories Department first if you need a state-recognised certificate for the person in charge of a first-aid box, because that is a different question and an iMost certificate may not answer it. Seafarers should treat DG Shipping's STCW courses as a separate track. If you are going offshore, T-BOSIET already includes basic first aid inside its three days; this half-day course does not replace it. A half-day course alone is rarely a reason to travel a day by train, so the sensible plan is to add it to a trip you are already making.
The job is offshore. First aid is one of its modules, and it adds helicopter escape, sea survival and fire fighting.
On an acid or fertiliser line, the first-aid case is as likely to be a splash or a fume exposure as a cut.
Your people issue or support hot-work permits and need a trained fire watch. Ask our team for the current fee.
A site or client rule asks for hydrogen sulphide awareness. Half a day, ₹12,500, valid two years.
Teaching is interactive classroom work with practical demonstrations, case studies and scenarios. Assessment is by written test, demonstration and oral questioning, and you receive an iMost certificate when you pass.
Why first aid matters, what your duties are and where they end. Use it to line up what you learn with the factory rules and client requirements your site already follows.
The part where minutes count. On a spread-out port or plant site, knowing where the nearest defibrillator is and how to use it can decide the outcome.
Everyday injuries in handling, lifting and machine work, from cuts and crushed fingers to burns.
Choking, heart attack, stroke and seizures, which strike workers and visitors who were not hurt by the job at all.
Heat illness, hypothermia, cold injury and poisoning. Heat is the Kakinada summer problem; cold injury belongs to cold stores.
Children, older people and mental health crises, followed by role-play and simulations that put the earlier modules together.
Buyers are HSE and training coordinators at fertiliser and oil-processing plants, port and terminal operators, logistics and shore-base firms, and contractors who send supervisors where the client requires a trained first-aider. Because the course is only half a day, it is usually bought alongside a longer programme.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Basic First Aid Training | An iMost certificate. It is useful for internal competence, but check whether a statutory role or client demands a particular body's certificate. |
| Hazardous Materials HAZMAT Training | Often the companion for teams handling chemicals; first aid does not cover chemical response. |
| Fire Watch Training | A common pairing for contractors on hot-work jobs. |
| Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T-BOSIET) | Needed only where staff will go offshore; the contract names it. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Kakinada has no airport, and we could confirm no direct flight from the Rajahmundry airport about 60 km away. Most people arrive by train from Samalkot, roughly 13 km from Kakinada Town, so plan the trip around a longer programme and a night near the campus.
Listed as leaving Samalkot at 09:35 and reaching Ernakulam Town at 09:15 the next morning. Confirm running days, since one timetable site lists it daily and another mentions one weekday.
Leaves Samalkot at 22:30 and reaches Ernakulam Junction at 01:55 on the third day, about 27 hours 25 minutes. The late arrival suits only a group that has arranged a place to wait.
IndiGo connects Rajahmundry to Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The Chennai–Kochi leg is a short direct hop, roughly an hour and a quarter in the air. Check live fares against the train.
Around 1,250 to 1,300 km. Only practical for a team with two drivers.
Check with your client or inspector whether an iMost certificate is acceptable, and which roles it is for. Name them before you book travel.
Add the half day to a T-BOSIET, H2S or fire watch visit, or send a shift's worth of supervisors together to share one journey.
Take 18567 from Samalkot, arrive the next morning, and rest. Our team can suggest places to stay near the campus.
Comfortable clothing for floor exercises and a valid photo ID. Declare any medical condition or medication to the instructor.
On return, brief the shift, check where the first-aid boxes and defibrillator are, and file the certificate with your HSE records.
