Basic First Aid for Riyadh's building sites and workplaces

Basic First Aid Training in Kochi for Riyadh Construction, Facilities and Office Staff

Riyadh has no offshore industry. What it has is a very large amount of building, a metro that is now running, and office districts with thousands of staff. Basic First Aid is a half-day course at ₹10,000, taught with CPR, AED, wound care and heat-illness scenarios. It carries an iMost certificate, and this page is clear about what that does and does not cover.

Where first aid skills meet Riyadh's workplaces

Riyadh Metro has six lines, 176 km of track and 85 stations, with the first lines opened on 1 December 2024 and the full network operating by early January 2025. King Abdullah Financial District covers about 1.6 million square metres with 95 buildings and, by 2026, more than 140 office tenants. King Salman Park, on the former air base, spans around 16 square kilometres and has been under construction since late 2021. Qiddiya, about 360 square kilometres south-west of the city, opened its first attraction on 31 December 2025, and Riyadh will host Expo 2030 from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031. Behind each of these is a workforce of site engineers, foremen, facilities technicians, security staff, drivers and administrators.

Saudi Arabia does regulate workplace first aid. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development says employers must provide medical aid cabinets stocked for first aid, with contents set by regulation. Ministerial Decision 400/1, issued under Article 144 of the Labor Law and hosted on the ministry's site in an unofficial English translation, goes further: an employer with fifty or more workers must appoint a full-time first aider whose qualifications are certified by the competent authority, and provide a first aid room no more than 200 metres from the farthest place of work unless fast transport is available. Check with your employer whether that decision is the one your site works to.

That wording is why this page is careful. iMost issues its own certificate. We do not claim that it is the certification the decision refers to, and we cannot say which body or course a given employer, project owner or insurer will accept for a named first aider. The practical use of our course is to give supervisors, wardens and team members the knowledge to act in the first minutes, and to complement whatever formal first-aider qualification the company has to hold. The Saudi Red Crescent Authority runs its own first aid programmes, and its figures for the first half of 2026 include private-sector trainees, so ask your HSE team which route they use.

Riyadh Metro

Six lines, 176 km and 85 stations; opened between 1 December 2024 and early January 2025.

King Abdullah Financial District

About 1.6 million sq m, 95 buildings and 140-plus office tenants as of 2026.

Around 16 sq km on the former air base, with construction under way since late 2021.

Qiddiya and Expo 2030

A 360 sq km entertainment city south-west of Riyadh, and the Expo from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031.

Roles in Riyadh that can use the course

Site foremen, supervisors and safety officers on construction projects

They are the first adult on scene when someone falls, is struck or collapses, often far from the site clinic.

Facilities and building services technicians

Towers, hotels, malls and stations employ staff who work alone or in pairs on plant rooms, roofs and risers.

Metro and transport operations staff

Stations and depots see crowds, long shifts and sudden illness among passengers and staff.

Office floor wardens, receptionists and HR teams

A tower with thousands of occupants needs people who know what to do for choking, chest pain or a seizure before help arrives.

Drivers, security guards and camp supervisors

They work in heat, on busy roads and in accommodation blocks where help is not immediately at hand.

Teachers, nursery staff and carers

They use the sections on children, the elderly and mental health crises directly in their daily work.

First aid beside other courses a Riyadh team might need

Basic First Aid answers the first few minutes after a casualty goes down. It does not teach fire response, safe lifting or how to assess risks in advance, so teams usually combine it with one or two of those. A supervisor with a large crew often takes first aid and risk assessment together; a facilities warden often takes first aid with fire warden or basic fire fighting. If your company is told it needs a named first aider under the labour rules, confirm the requirement first and treat our course as the practical training that sits beside it.

Fire Warden Training →

You are responsible for evacuating a floor, a tower or a camp block.

Basic Fire Fighting Training →

Your team needs to tackle small fires or support emergency response.

Manual Handling Training →

Back and lifting injuries are a recurring problem on your site.

Risk Assessment Training →

You prepare method statements and want to prevent incidents rather than only respond.

The seven topics, applied to Riyadh's heat and heavy work

The course is interactive classroom training with practical demonstrations, case studies and scenario-based exercises led by experienced safety professionals. Assessment is a written test, a demonstration and oral questioning.

  1. 01

    Introduction to first aid

Definition, importance, legal considerations and objectives, including why employer duties differ by country and what your own company requires.

  2. 02

    Basic life support

CPR, AED use and recovery positions, which matter in towers and stations where an AED may be installed but few people have ever used one.

  3. 03

    Common injuries

Wounds, burns, fractures and sprains, the injuries a foreman sees on an active site.

  4. 04

    Medical emergencies

Choking, heart attacks, strokes and seizures, relevant to office floors, drivers and shift workers.

  5. 05

    Environmental emergencies

Heat-related illness, hypothermia, frostbite and poisoning. Heat is the one that matters in Riyadh, where a seasonal midday outdoor work ban has applied from 15 June to 15 September in recent years.

  6. 06

    Special considerations

First aid for children, the elderly and mental health crises.

  7. 07

    Practical scenarios

Role-playing, simulations and hands-on practice using what you have just learned.

For Riyadh contractors, facilities firms and HR teams

Companies here usually work to a project owner's HSE requirements and to the ministry's labour rules. A course that is quick to schedule and easy to document helps supervisors and wardens, while the formal first-aider requirement is handled separately.

Standards that shape training in Saudi Arabia

Labor Law and Decision 400/1Employers provide first aid cabinets; with 50 or more workers the decision calls for a full-time first aider certified by the competent authority and a first aid room.
Seasonal midday work banIn recent years private-sector outdoor work in direct sun has been barred from 12:00 to 15:00 between 15 June and 15 September. Check the ministry's notice for the current year.
Project owner HSE requirementsGiga-project and developer contracts set their own training lists, so check what the contract names.
Saudi Red Crescent Authority programmesThe SRCA runs first aid programmes, including for private-sector staff. Ask it or your client which certificate counts for named first aiders.

What employers commonly ask for

CourseRequirement note
Basic First Aid TrainingUseful for supervisors, wardens and team leaders. It is an iMost certificate and does not replace a first-aider qualification your employer must hold.
Fire Warden TrainingOften paired with first aid for building and camp wardens.
Risk Assessment TrainingA natural pairing for supervisors who write method statements.

Riyadh to Njarakkal for a half-day course

Direct flights connect King Khalid International Airport (RUH) and Cochin International Airport (COK) in about five and a half hours. The campus on Vypin island is about 40 km from the airport. A standalone course needs one night in Kochi, and two if your flight arrives late.

RUH to COK

Aggregators list Saudia, Air India Express and Akasa Air on the route, with different frequencies by season. Check the airline for the current schedule.

A pre-booked taxi to Puthuval Road, Njarakkal, across the Goshree bridges. Allow an hour or more.

Plan your visit from Riyadh

Planning around home leave

A half-day course adds almost nothing to a trip to Kerala. Many people book it for the first or last day of an annual leave.

Visa and entry

Indian passport holders do not need a visa for India. Others should check which e-Visa category applies on indianvisaonline.gov.in, since eligibility depends on nationality.

Costs and payment

The fee is ₹10,000 per person, quoted in INR. Confirm the currency and payment method with our team before sending money from Saudi Arabia.

A short trip built around a half-day course
