Shift supervisors and line leaders
They are first on the scene when someone is hurt, and a calm, practised response matters before the nominated first-aider arrives.
Ahmedabad and its surroundings hold a dense belt of industrial estates run by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation. Vatva, Odhav and Kathwada are well-known estates on the city's eastern side, and Sanand, to the west, is a large estate with automobile, engineering, electronics and plastics clusters. A third-party listing describes Vatva as mixing chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles and engineering, while Odhav is listed for engineering, plastics, textiles and packaging. These are the places where a supervisor, a shift in-charge or a contractor's safety officer is most likely to be asked who can give first aid on the floor.
The legal starting point is Section 45 of the Factories Act, 1948. It requires a first-aid box or cupboard for every 150 workers ordinarily employed, to be kept in the charge of a responsible person who holds a first-aid certificate recognised by the State Government and who is available during working hours. Factories with more than 500 workers must also have an ambulance room. In Gujarat, first-aid training providers appear to be recognised through the state's industrial safety and health directorate, and at least one provider states on its own website that it holds that recognition.
That matters for how you read this page. iMost's Basic First Aid course is an iMost certificate. We do not claim that it meets the Gujarat recognition for the person in charge of a factory first-aid box under Section 45. If that is why you are asking, confirm with your factory inspector or the directorate first, and use a recognised provider for that purpose. What our course adds is a wider practical skill set: CPR with an AED, wound and fracture care, medical emergencies, heat illness and scenario practice, which many employers want from supervisors, security staff and contractors beyond the single nominated person.
Heat is a local reason to take the environmental module seriously. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation launched a heat action plan in 2013, described as the first of its kind in South Asia, with early warnings and training for medical and community workers. Outdoor and furnace-side workers in the estates face the same conditions every summer, and recognising heat illness early is part of the course.
GIDC estates on the eastern side of Ahmedabad with mixed engineering, chemical, plastics and textile units.
About 2,056 hectares, with focus sectors listed by GIDC as automobiles, plastic engineering, engineering and electronics.
One first-aid box per 150 workers, a certified person in charge, and an ambulance room above 500 workers.
Launched in 2013 by the municipal corporation; relevant to the course's heat-illness module.
They are first on the scene when someone is hurt, and a calm, practised response matters before the nominated first-aider arrives.
Contract labour moves between sites, and a supervisor who can give first aid is useful on every one of them.
They often meet the ambulance and direct it, and are the first to see an injury at the entrance or on the perimeter.
Burns, cuts, falls and choking are common in these settings; the course covers them with hands-on practice.
A person already travelling for Fire Watch, H2S or an OPITO course can add a half day with little extra cost.
Road incidents are a standing risk around the estates; recovery position and CPR are the first skills to learn.
Pick Basic First Aid when you want people who can respond to the most common injuries and emergencies, and the certificate is for internal competence or a client's general safety list. Pick a recognised provider if the purpose is to name the person in charge of a Section 45 first-aid box. Pick T-BOSIET or BOSIET with EBS instead if a job requires offshore survival training, since those OPITO courses already include basic first aid inside a three-day programme. If the real need is fire cover on hot-work jobs, Fire Watch is the closer fit. Ask your client or inspector which certificate they want before you travel.
Your team issues or supports hot-work permits and needs a trained watcher.
The risk on your floor is chemical spills and exposure, not injuries alone.
A job needs OPITO offshore survival training; basic first aid is part of it.
Training is interactive classroom work with practical demonstrations, case studies and scenarios. Assessment is by written test, demonstration and oral questioning, and you receive an iMost certificate on completion.
Purpose, legal considerations and objectives. Use it to link what you learn with the duties your factory already carries.
CPR, AED use and the recovery position. This is the module where speed matters most on a large site.
Wounds, burns, fractures and sprains. These are the everyday injuries in fabrication, casting and packing lines.
Choking, heart attack, stroke and seizures, which strike workers as well as visitors.
Heat-related illness, poisoning and cold exposure. The heat material is the part most relevant to an Ahmedabad summer.
Children, the elderly and mental health crises, followed by role-play and simulations.
Companies in the Ahmedabad estates buy first aid training to widen the number of trained people on shift, to prepare for audits and to meet client site requirements. Because the course is half a day, it is usually bought as part of a longer visit.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Basic First Aid Training | An iMost certificate. Not a substitute for the state-recognised certificate for the person in charge of a first-aid box; check with your inspector. |
| Fire Watch Training | A common pairing for contractors on hot-work jobs. |
| Hazardous Materials HAZMAT Training | Useful for teams handling chemicals in the estates. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Ahmedabad is one of the better-connected Gujarat cities for Kochi. A nonstop IndiGo flight takes about two and a half hours, though schedules change. The train takes about a day and a half.
Aggregators list IndiGo on this route at around 2 hours 25 to 35 minutes, with frequency varying by season. Check the airline before booking, since schedules shift.
Leaves Ahmedabad Junction at about 15:25 and reaches Ernakulam Junction at about 02:50 two days later, a little over 35 hours. Confirm running days on IRCTC.
Njarakkal is around 40 km from the airport, about an hour. From Ernakulam Junction it is about 15 km over the Goshree bridges.
Ask your client or inspector whether an iMost certificate is acceptable for the role, and what else they require.
Fire Watch, HAZMAT or an OPITO course can be planned in the same visit. Ask our team how to sequence them.
Take the nonstop to Kochi if the schedule suits, and stay near the campus.
Bring comfortable clothing for practical work and valid photo ID, and declare any medical condition or medication to the instructor.
Note the certificate date, share the skills you practised with colleagues and add the record to your portal account.
