Engineers on offshore rotations who live in Warangal between hitches
They already hold BOSIET and need the refresher before the date on the certificate, ideally in the last three months of validity.
The district's engineering identity is built on teaching, power and coal. NIT Warangal began in 1959 as the Regional Engineering College, became an NIT in 2002 and gained Institute of National Importance status in 2007. Its first branches were civil, electrical and mechanical, with chemical engineering added in 1964 and metallurgical in 1965. It has about 7,000 students on a 250-acre campus. Wikipedia carries no placement data for it, and we do not know how many alumni work offshore, so we will not guess. The honest statement is narrower: a mechanical, chemical or electrical graduate who takes an offshore job in Mumbai, Chennai or abroad is exactly the person this course renews.
Power and mining are the nearest large employers. The Kakatiya Thermal Power Station at Chelpur, in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, is a coal plant run by TGGENCO with a 500 MW unit and a 600 MW unit. Singareni Collieries, headquartered at Kothagudem, operates 17 open-cast and 22 underground mines in Telangana and is owned 51 per cent by the state and 49 per cent by the Government of India. Neither is an offshore employer, and we have no information that either asks for OPITO certificates. If you work in a role like those and never go offshore, you do not need FOET. If you have moved on to a rotation elsewhere, you probably do.
OPITO's entry rule decides everything. FOET with EBS is open to people with a valid, in-date OPITO-approved BOSIET, BOSIET with CA-EBS, T-BOSIET, FOET, FOET with CA-EBS or T-FOET certificate, and centres must be able to show OPITO that the requirement was met. Our own course page asks for a valid BOSIET with EBS or FOET with EBS. If you hold a tropical or CA-EBS certificate, ask our team to confirm before you pay, and check that your client wants the standard version. If your certificate has already expired, a refresher is not available and the full BOSIET with EBS is the way back.
Timing matters for money. If your previous certificate expires within three months of the course enrolment date, OPITO says the new certificate should carry on from the old expiry date, unless the duty holder, asset owner or operator specifies otherwise. Booking inside that last window therefore costs you nothing. Booking much earlier discards validity you have already paid for.
Founded 1959 as a regional engineering college; civil, electrical and mechanical first, then chemical (1964) and metallurgical (1965).
Coal plant near Chelpur with a 500 MW and a 600 MW unit, operated by TGGENCO.
17 open-cast and 22 underground mines in Telangana; 51 per cent state-owned.
About 146 km by road and about 1 hour 38 minutes on the fastest trains, according to a route guide.
A valid, in-date BOSIET or FOET-family certificate; eight guided learning hours and three mandatory units.
They already hold BOSIET and need the refresher before the date on the certificate, ideally in the last three months of validity.
A refresher needs an unexpired earlier certificate. Alumni with a lapsed one will need the full course, so check the date first.
Skills carry over, but site access offshore depends on a current OPITO certificate, not on the previous employer's training.
Short visits still need the helicopter and sea survival certificate that crews hold.
One day of refresher fits into a holiday far better than three days of the full course.
Look at the expiry date printed on your certificate. If it is still valid and your client names the standard version, FOET with EBS is the course. If it has expired, take BOSIET with EBS again. If your certificate is the tropical T-BOSIET and your client wants the tropical refresher, T-FOET is the matching course, but if the client wants the standard one, ask us first and check whether OPITO's bridging standard fits. If all you need is the helicopter exercise, HUET with EBS is a separate one-day course. In every case the client, not the training centre, decides which certificate it accepts.
Your certificate has lapsed or you have never held one. OPITO 5700, three days, ₹35,000.
You hold T-BOSIET and the client names the tropical refresher. OPITO 5614, one day, ₹25,000.
Only the helicopter underwater escape is required. OPITO 5095, one day, ₹25,000.
OPITO sets FOET with EBS at eight guided learning hours and three mandatory units. Our one-day course covers the helicopter, survival and fire content that the induction taught you, in a form that assumes you remember the broad idea but not the detail. Practical exercises take place in the pool with a Modular Egress Training Simulator and on the fire ground, with OPITO practical assessments.
Hazards of helicopter transfer, the safety equipment and the pre-ditching actions. Four years is long enough for the order of steps to fade.
Escape from a capsized, submerged helicopter with the emergency breathing system. This is the exercise people most want to repeat before a rotation.
Individual and group survival techniques, lifejackets, boarding life rafts, what to do while awaiting rescue, and basic first aid and casualty care.
Offshore fire hazards and prevention, picking and using a portable extinguisher, and self-rescue through a smoke-filled space.
Few Warangal employers buy FOET directly, because few have offshore staff. Requests usually come from the contractor or manning agent that deploys a person from this region, or from an individual. The task for those buyers is calendar management: knowing whose certificate falls due when.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Further Offshore Emergency Training with EBS (FOET with EBS) | The refresher for standard BOSIET holders; take it before expiry. |
| Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training with EBS (BOSIET with EBS) | Needed again if a certificate has lapsed. |
| Tropical Further Offshore Emergency Training (T-FOET) | The tropical refresher, for holders of T-BOSIET whose client names it. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Kochi is about 1,250 km from Warangal by road, and the direct train takes about 22 hours. Hyderabad is the nearest airport to Warangal, so most people go there first and fly. The campus is about 40 km from Cochin airport.
About 146 km. A route guide gives about 3 hours 12 minutes on the recommended NH-163 route and about 1 hour 38 minutes for the fastest trains. Check IRCTC for current times.
A nonstop flight takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. Book it for the day before the course so you reach the campus area in daylight, and keep a spare day for the return.
A third-party timetable lists Warangal at 18:30 and Ernakulam Town at 16:30 the next day, about 22 hours. The return, 12625, is listed at Ernakulam Town at 16:10 and Warangal at 13:40 the following day. Confirm running days on NTES.
If it is still valid, you can book the refresher. If it has expired, plan for the full BOSIET instead.
Decide which of OPITO's five medical options you will use, and bring the document with you.
By air: go to Hyderabad the day before, fly to Cochin, take the course and return, a three-day trip. By the Kerala Express: allow four or five days door to door.
