Facility managers, floor wardens and reception teams on IT campuses
A campus may have thousands of people but only a handful of staff on a floor at night. They reach a collapsed colleague before the clinic does.
Start with the towers. HITEC City covers roughly 200 acres across Madhapur, Gachibowli, Kondapur and Miyapur, and its campuses are very large: one technology company's campus there is listed as housing over 15,000 employees on about 9.5 acres. Telangana reported about 9.46 lakh IT professionals for 2023-24. At those densities, a faint, a seizure, a chest-pain call or a fall on a staircase is a question of when, not whether, somewhere in the district. Facility managers, security desks, cafeteria supervisors and transport coordinators are the staff who reach the person first, and none of them is trained by the job description.
Second, the plants. Jeedimetla, in the north of Secunderabad, is an industrial area with machine tools, pharmaceuticals, electrical goods, textiles and chemicals, and it includes drug formulation and bulk-drug manufacturing. Pharma plants carry cuts, burns, chemical splashes, slips on wet floors and strain injuries. Plants have their own medical rooms, but the minutes between the incident and a nurse reaching the spot belong to a supervisor or a co-worker.
Third, the sites and venues. The Hyderabad Metro, which opened in November 2017, runs about 67 km and carried roughly half a million passengers a day in 2023. Its Phase 2 proposals, 76.2 km and 86 km, have been approved by the state and sent to the Centre, so civil works and the people who supervise them will matter here for years. Event venues add another crowd: the HICC convention centre seats 5,000 and the HITEX exhibition centre sits on about 40 hectares. Contractors, venue managers and event stewards need staff who can start CPR before an ambulance finds the right gate.
On the law, we are careful. We could not find a readable Telangana rule that lists recognised first-aid certificates, so we do not say what the state accepts for a factory's named first-aider. Where your company has to nominate one under the factory law or the new labour code, ask the Telangana factories department which certificates it recognises. Our course is an iMost certificate and is not offered as meeting any statutory nomination. It is for everybody else who should be able to act.
About 81 hectares (200 acres) of IT campuses across Madhapur, Gachibowli, Kondapur and Miyapur, inaugurated in November 1998.
North Secunderabad; machine tools, pharmaceuticals, electrical goods, textiles and chemicals, roughly 12 km from the city centre.
Opened 29 November 2017; three lines, about 67 km, around 536,000 daily riders in July 2023. Phase 2 proposals await central approval.
A 5,000-seat convention centre and an exhibition ground of about 40 hectares, both in the HITEC City belt.
A campus may have thousands of people but only a handful of staff on a floor at night. They reach a collapsed colleague before the clinic does.
They are on duty round the clock, on every entrance, and are often the first to see a visitor or driver in trouble.
Staff cabs run at all hours across the city. A supervisor with first aid training can talk a driver or passenger through a medical event until help arrives.
Burns, cuts, eye injuries and spills are everyday risks, and the plant's medical room may be at the far end of the site.
Gangs of contract labour work at height and near machinery, often far from a clinic.
Crowd events bring heat illness, faints and chest pain, and stewards are standing next to the person.
Basic First Aid is a general course: the best-known first-aid skills, in half a day. It does not make anyone a nurse, replace a plant's medical officer or cover decontamination of a specific chemical, which belongs in your safety data sheets and emergency plan. Because Hyderabad to Kochi is a flight, the economical choice is often to pair it with a second short course on consecutive days, so one trip produces two certificates. A pharma unit might add hazardous materials handling, an IT campus might add fire warden training, and a site team might add incident investigation for supervisors.
Campus and venue teams who also run floor evacuations and headcounts.
Pharma and chemical units where the first question is what the substance is and how to contain it.
Individuals who want an offshore career. First aid is only a small part of that three-day OPITO induction.
Our outline lists seven topics, delivered through classroom teaching, demonstrations, case studies and scenario practice. You are assessed by a written test, a demonstration and oral questioning.
What first aid is for, what it is not, the legal considerations and the aims of the day, so that a campus guard knows when to start and when to stand back for the ambulance.
The module that matters most on IT campuses with defibrillators on the walls. People practise on manikins until the sequence is steady.
The injuries that pharma floors, workshops and building sites actually produce, and how to control bleeding and cool a burn.
The collapses that happen at desks, canteens and exhibition halls. Recognising the signs early shortens the time to hospital.
Hyderabad summers are hard on gangs working outdoors, so heat illness is the relevant topic. Hypothermia and frostbite are listed in the outline but matter little here.
Relevant for visitors to venues, older relatives of staff on campus and colleagues in distress at work.
Role-play and hands-on practice, where a team can rehearse its own call-out procedure.
Buyers here are mostly facility management companies, pharma and manufacturing EHS teams, and contractors with large site workforces. Most want one certificate for many people and a record that shows who is covered on which shift.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Basic First Aid Training | Often asked of facility, security and supervisory staff by clients and in site induction. The certificate is issued by iMost; confirm with your client that it is accepted. |
| Fire Warden Training | Pairs naturally with first aid for evacuation teams on campuses and venues. |
| Hazardous Materials HAZMAT Training | For pharma and chemical units, where substance knowledge comes before casualty care. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
There is a nonstop flight from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Cochin, about 1 hour 40 minutes. The campus is on Vypin island, about 40 km from the airport by road, and about 15 km from Ernakulam Junction.
Flightsfrom lists nonstop services on this route. Choose a morning arrival so you reach the campus the same day, and check the airline for current times.
Allow about an hour by cab. The route crosses the Goshree bridges to Vypin island.
Roughly a day each way. For a half-day course this only makes sense if you are carrying a larger group on a budget.
List the people on each shift who would be the first helper. Send those whose absence would leave a floor or a gang uncovered, in lots.
Pick a second short course so the trip is worth the airfare. Ask our team which half-day sessions fall on consecutive days.

Fly HYD to COK and stay near Vypin. First aid practice is physical, so avoid arriving from a night train.
Wear comfortable clothes, carry photo ID, and tell the instructor about any condition or medication. Log each certificate and set your own review date.
