The Importance of BOSIET with EBS Training

Safety is not only a priority but a way of life in the fast-paced world of offshore oil and gas exploration and production. Thorough training and preparation are necessary to guarantee the safety of any person operating in such demanding situations. The purpose of this training is to fulfill the prerequisites for emergency response and offshore safety for those who are new or returning to the offshore oil and gas industry and who will be using rebreather Emergency Breathing Systems (EBS) while traveling by offshore helicopter.

Three full days are dedicated to the course, providing participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills related to offshore safety, fire response, sea survival, and helicopter emergency escape. Hands-on emergency simulations help delegates build confidence and competence to respond effectively under pressure.

Learning Outcomes
On completion delegates will be able to: • Identify the hazards of offshore oil & gas installations and the relevant safety regulations and management systems. • Adopt correct brace positions and emergency actions and escape from a capsized, submerged helicopter using the Emergency Breathing System (EBS). • Perform individual and group sea survival techniques, use lifejackets and life rafts, and apply basic first aid. • Use portable fire-fighting equipment and self-rescue from a smoke-filled environment.
Training Methodology
Delivered through a blend of classroom theory and instructor-led practical exercises. Helicopter escape and sea survival are practised in a controlled indoor pool using a Modular Egress Training Simulator (METS), and fire-fighting and smoke-filled escape are carried out on a dedicated fire ground — all under close instructor supervision.
Assessment Method
Continuous practical assessment by OPITO-approved instructors against the OPITO standard. Delegates must demonstrate competence in every exercise — helicopter escape, sea survival, first aid and fire-fighting/self-rescue. An OPITO-approved certificate is issued on successful completion.
What to Bring
Swimwear and a towel for the water-based exercises, comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity, and a valid photo ID. Spectacle/contact-lens wearers should bring a retaining strap. Bring and declare any required medication to the instructor.
