Hospital attendants, nurses and support staff
They are the first responders on a ward at night, and their first decision, whether to fight or evacuate, shapes everything after it.
Start with the hospitals. Wikipedia describes Thrissur as the health centre for central Kerala, drawing patients from Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and the north of Ernakulam district, with three medical colleges in the city. A hospital runs 24 hours on staggered shifts, holds oxygen and heavy electrical loads, and has patients who cannot walk out. The people on duty at 3 am are often attendants and nurses, not the safety officer, so the course covers what a non-specialist can safely do in the first minutes and what to leave to the fire service.
Gold comes next. The Gold business in Thrissur page on Wikipedia, which draws on reports from the 2000s, counts about 3,000 ornament units and 40,000 workers around the city, with most within 25 km. A showroom holds dense, valuable stock behind glass, shutters and grilles, and a workshop uses torches, heaters and polishing machines. Can a salesperson reach an extinguisher, pick the right one and still get customers to an exit? The course makes staff practise that sequence.
Then there are the places where crowds gather. Sobha City Mall at Puzhakkal opened in December 2015 with about 450,000 sq ft over three floors and a basement car park, so tenants and the facility team share one evacuation plan. The Thrissur Pooram Exhibition, held at Thekkinkadu Maidan for 40 to 50 days a year and run jointly by the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi devaswoms, brings stalls, departments and companies into a temporary setting. Volunteers and stallholders at such events can differ from one season to the next, and a half-day course gives each new group the same basics.
A word on what this course is not. Building fire safety in Kerala sits with the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services, which works under the Kerala Fire Force Act, 1962 and issues fire NOCs. Our certificate does not replace an NOC or an audit, and it is not a statutory qualification. It gives an employer a dated record that staff were trained to use extinguishers and follow an evacuation plan.
Government Medical College, Amala and Jubilee Mission make Thrissur a referral centre for central Kerala, per Wikipedia.
About 3,000 ornament units and 40,000 workers reported in and around the city, mostly within 25 km.
About 450,000 sq ft over three floors plus a basement car park; opened December 2015.
Held at Thekkinkadu Maidan for 40 to 50 days a year, organised jointly by two temple devaswoms since 1932.
Renamed in 2002; the fire force is established under the Kerala Fire Force Act, 1962.
They are the first responders on a ward at night, and their first decision, whether to fight or evacuate, shapes everything after it.
They know where the extinguishers hang and which shutters lock. Few have ever pulled a pin on one.
Torches, heaters and oily rags in a small shed are an ordinary fire source, and supervisors set the housekeeping habits.
Many tenants share one building and one set of exits, so they benefit from a common vocabulary for alarm, muster and roll call.
Temporary structures, extension boards and crowds change every season, and volunteers rarely repeat the same role.
Basic Fire Fighting is the broad starting point: fire behaviour, prevention, equipment, emergency procedure and a practical session in one half day. If your question concerns only extinguishers, including how to inspect and log them, Fire Extinguisher training is the closer fit. If a hospital or a mall wants one named person per floor to run evacuation and keep the plan alive, add Fire Warden, which takes a full day. Fire Watch is a different job, standing by during hot work, so it suits contractors rather than showroom staff.
You want extinguisher selection, use and an inspection checklist for a building or fleet. Half day; ask our team for the fee.
You are naming wardens for a ward, floor or tenant block. One day, ₹15,000, certificate valid two years.
Your contractors do hot work such as cutting or welding and need someone to stand watch. One day; ask our team for the fee.
Your team also handles burns, cuts and collapses. Half day, ₹10,000, an iMost certificate.
The half day mixes classroom teaching with demonstrations, case studies and scenario work. Here is how each module reads for Thrissur workplaces.
Why fire safety matters and what the fire triangle means in practice. A showroom with packaging, a ward with bedding and a stall with tarpaulin each supply fuel in their own way.
The stages of a fire and classes A, B, C, D and K. Class K matters for the hospital canteen, mall food court and function kitchen, where cooking oil is the fuel.
Prevention strategies and safe handling of flammable materials. For a goldsmith workshop this is the module on gas cylinders, heaters and housekeeping.
Water, foam, CO2 and dry powder extinguishers, and the PASS technique of pull, aim, squeeze and sweep. You learn why the wrong extinguisher near live electrical equipment makes matters worse.
Evacuation plans, muster points and who does what in an emergency. In a hospital or mall this is the part to repeat with the whole shift.
Hands-on extinguisher use and a fire blanket demonstration, done in a controlled setting under supervision.
Buyers are hospital administrators, showroom group managers, mall facility heads, plant managers on the Koratty and Ollur estates and event organisers who need volunteers briefed before a season. Most send people in shift groups.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Basic Fire Fighting Training | A practical baseline for front-line staff. It is an iMost certificate, so confirm that your NOC conditions or insurer accept it as training evidence. |
| Fire Warden Training | For people nominated to lead evacuation; one day with a two-year certificate. |
| Fire Extinguisher Training | Often bought alongside, by maintenance teams who inspect and log extinguishers. |
| Basic First Aid Training | Added where staff also treat burns and minor injuries before help arrives. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Plan your visit around the course reporting time, including any same-day journey.
The campus is about 70 km from Thrissur by road. A group in one vehicle can leave early for a morning batch and be home by evening. A smaller party can use rail to Ernakulam and a taxi across the Goshree bridges.
Allow about two hours each way. A minibus keeps a ward or showroom team together and delivers everyone to the gate. Leave before the morning rush at Aluva and Edappally.
A third-party timetable lists this train leaving Thrissur at 11:35 and reaching Ernakulam Town at 13:50, daily. That suits an afternoon batch only if our team confirms a late start, so ask first. Check NTES for current times.
Buses between Thrissur and Ernakulam run through the day. From the Ernakulam bus stand take a taxi or local bus onto Vypin island. This suits one or two people more than a group.
Choose people who are on duty at the quietest hours as well as the day team. Those are the ones who will act first.
Note any training line in your fire NOC conditions, your insurance policy or your lease, so you can show the certificate answers it.
Write to info@imostacademy.in or WhatsApp +91 8075 787307 with the headcount, the month and the fact that you are travelling from Thrissur.
Reach Njarakkal in time for the start. Expect classroom teaching, demonstrations, the practical session and the written, demonstration and oral assessments.
Back at the site, walk the evacuation route, check where each extinguisher hangs and note the next refresher date.
