Tower engineers and building management staff
They know the plant rooms and risers, and are asked to assess an alarm before the fire service arrives.
The first question is whether you need an approved card at all. Dubai Civil Defence has run a five-year fire-safety training plan for employees across the emirate since 2014, aimed at workplaces such as factories and warehouses. Its director general told The National in 2019 that fires fell by 8 per cent between 2015 and 2018, and that members of the public had helped extinguish close to 250 fires since training began. Some landlords, hotel operators and clients ask for training from a provider approved by Dubai Civil Defence. An iMost certificate is not that, and we found no public list of approved courses, so ask Civil Defence or your landlord before you spend leave on this one.
The second question is what the first response would look like in your building. CTBUH rankings reported by Khaleej Times in July 2025 put Dubai fourth in the world for completed buildings above 150 metres, with more than 250. In a tower, a first response is a short, practical sequence: raise the alarm, decide whether the fire is small enough for an extinguisher, keep an exit behind you, and hand over to Civil Defence when it is not. The people who make that call are often engineers, security staff and floor managers, and they benefit from practising it in a controlled setting.
The third question is how the rules have moved. The UAE Fire and Life Safety Code was updated in January 2017, according to WAM reporting: 20 chapters over 1,384 pages in Arabic and English, updated to reflect urban growth. The announcement said the updated chapters cover fire doors, cladding and access for Civil Defence trucks, and include educating consultants, contractors and end-users on the changes. We have not read the full code for this page, so we do not quote clauses; your fire consultant can tell you which ones bind your premises.
What the course gives you is practical competence for the first few minutes, with a dated record of who was trained. It does not make anyone a firefighter, and it does not replace Civil Defence approvals, drills run by your building management or the equipment servicing your landlord arranges.

They know the plant rooms and risers, and are asked to assess an alarm before the fire service arrives.
A hotel runs round the clock, and the person on duty at 3 am is not the safety officer.
Shops, kitchens and car parks share one evacuation plan, so everyone needs to speak the same language of alarm, muster and roll call.
Temporary power, stored materials and many trades in finished or half-finished floors raise the chance of a small fire.
Stock and packaging burn, and the shift leader decides whether to fight or clear the area.
Kitchens, shared rooms and electrical loads sit under one roof, and supervisors set the habits that prevent fires.
Basic Fire Fighting is the broad one: how fires behave, prevention, equipment and emergency procedure, with practice. If you only need to choose and check extinguishers, Fire Extinguisher training is narrower. Fire Warden is about evacuating a floor and counting people at the muster point, and takes a full day. Fire Watch is a hot-work role, with a dedicated person standing beside welding or cutting, and it suits contractors more than building teams. Many Dubai buildings send supervisors for Basic Fire Fighting and floor managers for Fire Warden.
Your need is the equipment: selecting, using and inspecting extinguishers across a building.
You are named in an evacuation plan and must clear a floor and report to the muster point.
You stand beside hot work and stay until the permit closes.
The half day is classroom teaching, demonstrations, case studies and scenarios, finished by practical work with extinguishers and a fire blanket. Assessment combines a written test, a demonstration and oral questioning. Successful delegates receive an iMost certificate, which is not an OPITO certificate.
The fire triangle and why fires matter. In a tower the fuel is furnishings, cabling and stored goods, spread over many floors.
How fires move through incipient, growth, fully developed and decay stages, and the classes A, B, C, D and K. Class K matters for hotel and mall kitchens.
Preventing fires through storage and handling of flammable materials, with a focus on housekeeping in plant rooms and back-of-house areas.
Extinguisher types (water, foam, CO2, dry powder) and the Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep method. The lesson is that the unit must match the fire.
Evacuation plans, muster points and the roles people play, so that a first response fits into the building's plan rather than competing with it.
Supervised, hands-on use of extinguishers and a fire blanket demonstration in a controlled setting.
Training is bought by facility-management companies, hotel and mall operators, contractors and manning agencies. They need to show a client, landlord or inspector that staff were trained, and they send people in shift groups.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Basic Fire Fighting Training | Often chosen for supervisors and response teams. Confirm in writing whether the client wants a Dubai Civil Defence-approved course instead. |
| Fire Extinguisher Training | For everyone who may pick up an extinguisher, including security and technicians. |
| Fire Warden Training | For floor and area wardens named in an evacuation plan. |
| Fire Watch Training | For contractors whose permits assign a fire watch. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Dubai (DXB) and Sharjah (SHJ) have direct flights to Cochin International Airport (COK) of about four hours. From COK the campus on Vypin island is a road trip of about 40 km, and from Ernakulam Junction about 15 km over the Goshree bridges.
Route listings show several carriers on the nonstop service, with frequencies that vary by season. Compare departure times against the batch date.
A second airport with direct flights, useful if you live in the northern emirates.
A prepaid taxi to Puthuval Road, Njarakkal, takes about an hour, depending on traffic over the bridges.
A half-day course fits at either end of a leave trip to Kerala. Choose a batch early in your stay, so a repeat exercise would not cost a return flight.
An Indian passport needs no visa for India. Other nationalities should find the e-Visa category that fits them on the official portal, since eligibility depends on nationality. Check residence-visa validity before booking.
The fee is ₹10,000 per person, quoted in rupees. Ask our team how to pay from the UAE before you transfer, and keep the receipt for your company records.
Ask your landlord, client or insurer whether they want a Dubai Civil Defence-approved course or will accept an iMost certificate.
Basic Fire Fighting often goes with Fire Warden or Fire Extinguisher training. Ask which pairings fit a current batch.
