Manning agency and crewing coordinators
They place crews with several clients in a year, so they need to know which clients name the tropical version before mobilising a person.
Dubai does have its own offshore history. The Fateh field, about 60 miles (97 km) off the coast, was discovered in 1966, and its first barrel was shipped to world markets on 22 September 1969. An underwater storage tank known as Khazzan was completed the same year. Dubai Petroleum took control of all oil and gas projects in the emirate in 2007, according to Gulf News. That is a small, long-established workforce, and for those people T-BOSIET is part of the job.
The larger group is employed in Dubai but placed elsewhere. Dubai's yards, free-zone firms and crewing offices employ people who are then placed with clients across the region. Drydocks World, a Dubai World subsidiary opened in 1983, lists more than 70 new-build projects since 1994, according to Wikipedia. Dubai International Airport handled about 95.2 million passengers in 2025, and Al Maktoum International Airport lies 37 km south-west of the city, which is part of why a Dubai address is convenient for a roving contractor. The employer in your contract and the operator on your mobilisation letter are often different companies.
That is where the wording of a client's rules matters. QatarEnergy's published contractor standard, in the revision dated 3 March 2024, says contractor personnel travelling to or visiting offshore locations shall hold a valid H2S/BA certificate and a Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training certificate. A Dubai-based project engineer or manning coordinator who is sent to a Qatar job may therefore meet the tropical version on paper, even if the previous client asked for something else. Other clients word their rules differently, and the contract on your desk is the only reliable guide.

Underwater storage tank completed in 1969, described by Wikipedia as a world first.
Dubai World subsidiary opened in 1983 beside Port Rashid, with more than 70 new-build projects since 1994 per Wikipedia.
Dubai International and Al Maktoum International (37 km south-west of the city) make travel to client sites straightforward.
Revision dated 3 March 2024; names TBOSIET for contractor personnel at offshore locations.
They place crews with several clients in a year, so they need to know which clients name the tropical version before mobilising a person.
A visit to a platform counts as an offshore transfer however short it is.
They carry platform crews and share the fire and sea survival duties.
Hook-up and start-up work at a client's offshore site follows the client's induction rules.
They approve manifests and book transfers, and need to read a certificate matrix correctly.
People who rotate to the field from the supply base are the clearest case for a current certificate.
T-BOSIET and BOSIET with EBS are both three days at the same fee and both carry four years, so the decision is about risk. Choose T-BOSIET when your contract names it, your next postings are all in warm Gulf waters, and you have the client's wording in writing. Choose BOSIET with EBS (5700) when your next employer is unknown, when you may be sent to colder waters, or when an operator names the standard version. If you already hold a T-BOSIET and now need the standard one, a five-hour OPITO bridging product (5704) exists for valid tropical holders; ask whether we can arrange it before you book three days. If your leave is short, ask about T-BOSIET Digital Delivery, where the theory is completed online before one practical day in Kochi.
Your next employer is not yet known, or an operator names the standard version.
You have limited leave and can finish the theory online before travelling.
You hold a T-BOSIET that is approaching OPITO's four-year limit; ask us to confirm entry rules.
Your client also asks for H2S awareness, as the QatarEnergy standard does.
OPITO's T-BOSIET standard runs 19 guided learning hours, with the safety induction taught as theory and the rest split roughly 40:60 between classroom and practical. Entry depends on medical fitness, shown by one of OPITO's accepted routes. Assessment is continuous and you must show competence in every exercise.
Offshore hazards, safety legislation, management systems and the roles on an installation, which is the briefing you will hear before any client's offshore transfer.
Travel hazards in tropical regions, brace positions and escape from a capsized, submerged helicopter in a pool with a simulator.
Tropical sea survival techniques without an immersion suit, lifejackets, life rafts, hyperthermia and basic first aid.
Fire prevention, portable extinguishers and escape from a smoke-filled space on a fire ground.
A Dubai agency or contractor sells people to clients with different rules. The efficient approach is to keep one certificate matrix across clients: who holds which OPITO code, when the offshore medical was done, and which client wants which version. That keeps a mobilisation from stalling on a small mismatch.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T-BOSIET) | Named by warm-water clients. Confirm the exact OPITO code for each contract. |
| Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training with EBS (BOSIET with EBS) | Named by operators who want the standard version, and the safer choice for crews with no fixed next client. |
| Basic H2S Training | Required alongside the survival course by some clients. Track the two-year validity separately. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Direct flights connect Dubai (DXB) and Sharjah (SHJ) with Cochin International Airport (COK) in about four hours. The campus is on Vypin island, around 40 to 45 km from the airport by road.
Several carriers, including Emirates, flydubai, IndiGo, Air India Express and SpiceJet, are listed on the route; seasons change the timetable.
Air Arabia and Air India Express fly direct, which suits crew living in Sharjah or the northern emirates.
The final leg is a prepaid taxi or app cab to Vypin island.
Plan five to six days in total: a day to arrive, three course days and a buffer for the flight back. If you are already going to Kerala on leave, take the course at the start or end of the break to save a second flight.
No Indian visa is needed on an Indian passport. If you hold another nationality, check the e-Visa category on the official portal before you book.
Fees are in rupees, per person. Agree the payment route from the UAE with our team before you book.
Ask your employer or the end client whether the contract names 5501 or 5700, and note any existing expiry date.
Decide which medical route you will use and bring the paperwork.
Share your leave dates at info@imostacademy.in or on WhatsApp, +91 8075 787307; batches run regularly.
A direct flight takes about four hours. India is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of the UAE.
Induction and fire ground, sea survival, then helicopter escape and pool exercises.
Send your employer a copy and note when the four years end.
