Floor wardens, facilities and security teams in IT parks
Round-the-clock floors and thin night staffing mean the first responder is rarely a nurse. CPR and AED confidence matters most here.
Start with the office towers. Infopark is described as covering 323 acres across two phases, with 582 companies and about 72,000 professionals in 2025, and its second phase is expected to employ over 100,000 once complete. Its first two phases sit beside SmartCity Kochi at Kakkanad. On a floor with hundreds of people on night shifts, the likeliest emergencies are a faint, a chest pain, a choking episode at the pantry or a fall on a staircase. The person who reaches the casualty first is a colleague, a security guard or a housekeeper, and the ambulance is minutes away.
Then the commuters. Kochi Metro runs 25 operational stations between Aluva and Tripunithura, and ridership was reported at about 125,000 a day in 2026. A line extension from JLN Stadium to Infopark through Kakkanad, 11.2 km with 11 stations, has been under construction since July 2024, with the opening dates reported as postponed. Station controllers, cleaners and security staff deal with crowds in lifts and on platforms every day, so a collapse or a fall is something they must be ready for.
The harbour end of the city has its own pattern. Cochin Shipyard built INS Vikrant, India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, which was commissioned on 2 September 2022, and it listed 1,744 employees in March 2019, before counting the contractors who work in the yard. Hot work, grinding, staging and heavy lifts produce burns, eye injuries and crush injuries. Subcontract gang leaders are the people who must act before the yard's own medical team reaches a casualty.
One point on the law, said plainly. Kerala's Department of Factories and Boilers lists five recognised institutions for the three-day factory first-aider course, and two of them are in Ernakulam district: the National Safety Council Kerala Chapter at Irumpanam, on Seaport-Airport Road, and the Indian Institute of Emergency Medical Services at Edapally. If your factory must name a first-aid box in-charge, go to one of them. Our iMost certificate is for everyone else on the shift who must still respond well.

One of two recognised first-aider training institutions in Ernakulam district, listed by the state factories department.
The second recognised institution in the district; its course is three days.
Round-the-clock floors and thin night staffing mean the first responder is rarely a nurse. CPR and AED confidence matters most here.
Crowds, escalators and lifts bring collapses, falls and panic. Calm handling in the first few minutes sets up the ambulance crew.
They stand next to the hot work and the lifts. Burn cooling, bleeding control and keeping a casualty still are their jobs until help arrives.
Kitchens mean scalds and knife cuts. Guests mean choking and heart events. Boat crews are often a long way from a hospital.
Children, fainting, seizures and minor injuries are daily events, and the module on special considerations is aimed at them.
Water travel means slips on wet decks and the odd medical event mid-channel, so the first minutes belong to the crew.
Ernakulam is unusual because both options are on your doorstep. Choose a recognised institution when a factory needs a named person for its first-aid box. Choose our half-day Basic First Aid to give a whole floor, shift or crew the same first-response habits in one morning. If the real problem is a fire, a lift or a heavy load, first aid is not the right course: it deals with the casualty, not the cause. Many Kochi employers book first aid alongside one of the courses below.
Tall office blocks and mall floors where one person must lead evacuation while another treats the casualty.
Stores, loading and housekeeping teams whose commonest injury is to the back or shoulder.
Hotel and canteen kitchens, where first aid and food hygiene suit the same group on separate days.
Kochi candidates heading offshore. It has a first aid element but is a three-day induction at ₹35,000, not a substitute.
The half day mixes classroom teaching, demonstrations, case studies and scenario work. Delegates are checked through a written test, a practical demonstration and oral questions. Here is how we point each module at the work described above.
What first aid is for, and where its legal limits lie. We use this to separate a trained colleague's response from the formal first-aider role under factory law.
Hands-on practice on manikins. Office and metro teams rehearse a collapse in a crowded lobby, including who calls for help and who fetches the defibrillator.
Wounds, burns, fractures and sprains. Yard supervisors work on a burn from hot work and a hand caught in a lift, while kitchen staff take scalds.
Choking, heart attack, stroke and seizures, along with how to describe the symptoms when you ring for an ambulance from a large campus.
Humid Kerala weather makes heat illness the practical topic, alongside poisoning. The hypothermia and frostbite content is for staff who travel to colder regions.
Children, older people and mental health crises, which school staff, hotel teams and metro stewards all meet in a normal week.
Role-play and simulations. Bring a real worry, such as a collapse on a staircase or an injured contractor on a staging, and the group will rehearse it.
Buyers close to the campus are facilities managers at IT parks and malls, HR and safety officers at hotels and hospitals, contractor supervisors and school administrators. Because travel is short, the practical question is how to release a team without stopping the work.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Basic First Aid Training | A common baseline for floor teams, supervisors and front-of-house staff. It is not the recognised factory first-aider certificate. |
| Fire Warden Training | Often booked in the same week by tower and mall managers, so one group handles both evacuation and casualties. |
| Manual Handling Training | For stores and loading teams, since lifting injuries are the ones first aid cannot prevent. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
The campus is on Vypin island, over the Goshree bridges. From central Ernakulam it is about 11 km and from the railway junction about 15 km. A group usually shares one vehicle, which is simpler than splitting across taxis.
The easiest way for ten to twenty people from Infopark, Edapally or the city centre. Leave outside the weekday rush on the bridges and allow extra time for traffic around Ernakulam.
The metro runs from Aluva to Tripunithura but does not reach Vypin, so it only shortens the first leg. Take it into the city and finish with a short cab or auto ride.
If a few delegates join from Thrissur, Kottayam or Alappuzha, the stations are within about 15 km of the campus by road. Send us their train times.
The airport at Nedumbassery is about 40 km from the campus, around an hour by taxi. Useful if head-office staff fly in to attend with the local team.
Start with people who are alone at odd hours or lead small gangs: night guards, supervisors, receptionists and drivers.
Write to info@imostacademy.in or WhatsApp +91 8075 787307 with the headcount, the roles and your preferred month. Batches run regularly.
Book a shared minibus from your site and agree the pick-up time with our team so the group arrives together.
Theory, demonstrations and scenarios, followed by the written paper, the practical demonstration and the oral questions.
File the certificates with your safety records and run a ten-minute drill on your own floor within a fortnight, using the scenario you rehearsed in class.
