T-FOET for Mangaluru

T-FOET refresher in Kochi for Mangaluru offshore workers renewing T-BOSIET

If your T-BOSIET was taken four years ago and you live on the Karnataka coast, the one-day T-FOET is the course that renews it, provided the old certificate is still in date. This page explains OPITO's entry rule exactly, how the three-month window protects your validity, and how to do the 425 km to Kochi for a single course day without losing a week.

Renewal, not first induction, is the Mangaluru question

Mangaluru is not an offshore oil port, and this page does not pretend otherwise. New Mangalore Port at Panambur is the only major port in Karnataka, with 17 berths, and the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals plant at Katipalla, an ONGC group company, has a design capacity of 15 million tonnes a year. Dockside and refinery work on their own do not call for an offshore certificate. The people who ask about T-FOET here are those who already hold T-BOSIET: they rotate to tropical offshore assets or vessels elsewhere and live on this coast between rotations.

For them the calendar matters more than the syllabus. A T-BOSIET lasts four years, and a lapsed one usually means going back to the three-day course at ₹35,000 instead of the one-day refresher at ₹25,000. A certificate issued in late 2022 reaches its expiry in the last quarter of 2026, which is why we expect renewal enquiries from the coast around now.

OPITO's own wording sets the entry rule. T-FOET is open to people with a valid, in-date OPITO-approved BOSIET, BOSIET with CA-EBS, T-BOSIET, FOET, FOET with CA-EBS or T-FOET certificate. Centres must be able to show OPITO that the prerequisite was met. Our course page asks for a valid T-BOSIET or T-FOET, so if you hold one of the other listed certificates, ask our team to confirm before you pay.

OPITO also says the maximum interval between completing T-BOSIET and completing T-FOET is four years, and that if your previous certificate expires within three months before your enrolment date, the new certificate runs on from the old expiry date unless the operator specifies otherwise. In practice that means booking inside the last three months loses nothing, while booking much earlier discards unused validity.

New Mangalore Port, Panambur

Karnataka's only major port, with 17 berths, according to Wikipedia; its crude and petroleum product trade connects the coast to refining.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals, Katipalla

Started in 1988 with a design capacity of 15 million tonnes a year; an ONGC group company.

OPITO T-FOET (5614)

Seven guided learning hours, three mandatory units, valid four years; entry needs an in-date BOSIET or FOET-family certificate.

Parasuram Express 16649

Listed as leaving Mangaluru Central at 05:00 and reaching Ernakulam Town at 13:50, the same day.

Mangaluru people for whom the refresher is the right course

Offshore technicians and operators holding T-BOSIET

They rotate to tropical installations and must renew before the certificate lapses, or the next mobilisation can be held.

Vessel crew on offshore support ships

Managers track survival certificates alongside seafarer training, and a lapsed one is easy to miss when the vessel is at sea.

Contractor engineers and inspectors from the coast

Short campaigns on offshore assets often need the certificate current on the day of mobilisation.

Refinery or port contractors who took T-BOSIET for a project

If the next project may need it again, renewing within the window keeps the certificate unbroken.

HSE and training coordinators

They hold the expiry list for a crew and can plan a joint trip rather than separate journeys.

T-FOET, FOET with EBS, or a fresh T-BOSIET

Match the refresher to the certificate you hold and the version your employer wants. T-FOET (OPITO 5614) refreshes the tropical certificate. FOET with EBS (OPITO 5858) is the standard-version refresher, also one day, ₹25,000 and valid four years, for people whose employers want the standard certificate. If your certificate has already expired, the OPITO entry rule asks for an in-date certificate, so you will usually need the full T-BOSIET again; confirm with our team before you travel. T-FOET already contains helicopter underwater escape, fire fighting and first aid, so you rarely need to add T-HUET on top, though your employer's wording comes first. Always check the client's wording, since the operator decides.

Further Offshore Emergency Training with EBS (FOET with EBS) →

Your employer wants the standard refresher, for example because crew may work outside tropical waters. One day, ₹25,000.

Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T-BOSIET) →

Your certificate has expired, or you are new to offshore work. Three days, ₹35,000, OPITO 5501.

Tropical Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (T-HUET) →

You need helicopter underwater escape on its own and nothing else. One day, ₹25,000.

The one day, for someone who has done it before

The refresher covers the same ground as T-BOSIET in less time. OPITO assesses three outcomes: safety equipment and procedures in a helicopter emergency, basic firefighting equipment and self-rescue in poor visibility, and basic first aid. Helicopter escape and sea survival are practised in an indoor pool with a Modular Egress Training Simulator, and fire exercises run on a dedicated fire ground.

  1. 01

    Helicopter safety and escape

Emergency ditching, brace positions and escape from a capsized, submerged helicopter. Four years is long enough for the sequence to fade, so expect to repeat it from the start.

  2. 02

    Tropical sea survival techniques

Our course outline lists sea survival alongside first aid among the skills refreshed: lifejackets, staying afloat and working as a group in warm water.

  3. 03

    Fire fighting and self-rescue

Offshore fire response, self-rescue in poor visibility and the use of firefighting equipment on the fire ground.

  4. 04

    Emergency first aid

Immediate care techniques for workplace injuries and medical emergencies, refreshed to the current standard.

For Mangaluru port, refinery and marine service employers

Refresher training is bought by HSE and training coordinators, offshore and marine contractors that employ coastal Karnataka crew, and manning agents who watch expiry dates. The task is calendar management: knowing which of forty names expire in the next three months and booking them together.

Planning a group booking

  • List each person's current certificate, its type and its expiry date. That tells us who is eligible, and who falls inside the three-month window.
  • Group renewals suit one Parasuram Express journey from Mangaluru Central. Tell us the headcount and we will propose a batch.
  • A corporate account (portal.imostacademy.in/register) stores certificates and expiry dates for the whole crew, and gives rate-card pricing for repeat batches.
  • Karnataka companies are invoiced in rupees with GST, with statements in the account.
