Process and production operators on rotation to western offshore platforms
They hold T-BOSIET from an earlier contract and need a valid date on the day the next flight is booked.
Mumbai High lies about 160 km west of the coast, and the field's story over the last few years is one of continuous campaigns. Public project summaries record that drilling of 43 wells on the Phase IV programme of Mumbai High North finished in December 2022, with a new offshore platform installed in February 2023. Mumbai High South's Phase III is described as 70 new wells, and a cable links 26 wellhead platforms across the field. We cannot say how many people took a T-BOSIET for those campaigns, but anyone who did so around then will find a four-year clock running out in late 2026 or during 2027.
That timing is why we call this the Mumbai calendar problem. A T-BOSIET is issued once, usually at the start of a contract, and then sits in a file for four years while the holder moves between jobs. By the time a new mobilisation request arrives, the certificate may have lapsed, and a lapsed one cannot be refreshed. OPITO's entry rule for T-FOET requires an in-date certificate from a defined list: BOSIET, BOSIET with compressed-air EBS, T-BOSIET, FOET, FOET with compressed-air EBS or T-FOET. A centre must be able to show OPITO that the prerequisite was met.
Our own course page asks for a valid T-BOSIET or T-FOET, which is narrower than OPITO's list. If you hold a standard BOSIET or a FOET variant and want to take T-FOET, write to us before paying so the team can confirm. In every case, the wording in your client's contract or mobilisation list decides which certificate it accepts.
OPITO also sets a timing rule that saves money. If the previous certificate expires within three months before enrolment, the new one is dated to continue from the old expiry date, unless the operator or duty holder specifies otherwise. Booking in that window therefore keeps all the validity you paid for. Booking earlier throws some away. For someone with an expiry in, say, February, the cleanest booking month is therefore November or December, not June.
Drilling of 43 wells finished December 2022 and a new platform was installed in February 2023, per a project summary.
Described as 70 new wells, with a cable linking 26 wellhead platforms across the field.
Seven hours of guided learning, three mandatory units, valid for four years.
Five accepted documents before the practical session, including a form completed at the centre.
They hold T-BOSIET from an earlier contract and need a valid date on the day the next flight is booked.
Their work is project-based, so the certificate often outlives the contract that paid for it.
They go offshore a few times a year, usually when a campaign peaks, and a lapse delays the whole crew.
An agency can only submit a profile that has a valid certificate, so a four-year-old T-BOSIET is a reason to book a refresher before the next interview.
They own the expiry list for a whole crew and can group renewals into one trip.
Read the date first. If your T-BOSIET is still valid and your client accepts the tropical certificate, T-FOET is the right course, and it costs ₹10,000 less than a fresh T-BOSIET and saves two days. If the date has passed, the entry rule is not met and the three-day T-BOSIET is the way back. If your client wants the standard version, FOET with EBS or the full BOSIET with EBS may be the better match, so ask for the exact wording before booking. T-FOET already includes helicopter escape, so do not add T-HUET unless your client names it separately. And T-FOET does not replace Basic H2S for platforms that handle sour gas; that is a separate half-day course.
Your certificate has expired, or you have never held one. OPITO 5501, three days, ₹35,000.
The client names the standard version of the refresher. One day, ₹25,000.
You need only the helicopter element, for example a visitor who holds other training. One day, ₹25,000.
Your platform or terminal handles sour gas. OPITO 9014, half day, ₹12,500, valid two years.
The day assumes you remember the broad outline and have forgotten the detail. It combines classroom teaching with practical drills in the indoor pool, using a Modular Egress Training Simulator, and on the fire ground, all assessed by OPITO-approved instructors against the standard.
Emergency ditching situations and escape techniques. If you fly from Juhu on rotation, this is the module that matters most, because the order of actions fades over four years.
Offshore fire response, using handheld extinguishers and finding your way out of a smoke-filled space. Platforms that handle hydrocarbons make this directly relevant.
Immediate care for workplace injuries and medical emergencies, practised with the thought that a hospital is a long transfer away.
Renewals are the most predictable training spend a Mumbai offshore contractor has, because the dates are printed on the cards. The usual problem is that the cards sit in individual files while the roster changes weekly.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Tropical Further Offshore Emergency Training (T-FOET) | Asked for when a crew member's T-BOSIET is close to expiry and the operator accepts the tropical version. The contract decides. |
| Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T-BOSIET) | Needed again if a certificate has lapsed, since the refresher requires an in-date one. |
| Further Offshore Emergency Training with EBS (FOET with EBS) | The standard refresher for holders whose client names the standard version. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Mumbai is about two hours from Kochi by air. Our campus stands at Njarakkal on Vypin island, roughly 40 km from Cochin International Airport and 15 km from Ernakulam Junction, which makes the journey the easy part of a one-day course.
Airlines list nonstop services from the main Mumbai airport, and some list Navi Mumbai too. Pick the evening flight before the course and check the airline for current times.
A cab takes about an hour. From Ernakulam Junction the Goshree bridges make it much shorter.
The rail journey is long in each direction, far more than the course itself, so it is rarely the right choice for a refresher.
If it is valid, you can book. If it has lapsed, plan for the full T-BOSIET instead.
Ask the mobilisation desk or agency for the wording in writing, since a tropical refresher is no use to a client that names the standard certificate.
Use an offshore medical or another accepted document. If you have none, the centre can have you complete its screening form, and you should declare any condition or medication.
Message +91 8075 787307 on WhatsApp or email info@imostacademy.in with your certificate type, its expiry date and your leave dates. We will reply with the batches that fit.
Bring swimwear, a towel, comfortable clothes and photo ID. Afterwards, send the new certificate to your agency and employer, and diary the new four-year expiry.
