Wellhead platform technicians and operators
They rotate to platforms on a pattern, so their certificate must be valid on every transfer day, not just the first.
QatarEnergy's contractor standard CORP-HSE-STD-080, Rev. 04, says in section 3.9.1.1 that contractor personnel travelling to work at or visit offshore locations must be trained under its training management standard, CORP-HSE-STD-024, and must hold a valid H2S/BA certificate and a valid Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T-BOSIET) certificate. Another section points to a QatarEnergy procedure for conducting safety training for offshore personnel. The word that matters for this page is valid. A card that has lapsed is a card the mobilisation office cannot clear.
The standard does not mention T-FOET or any refresher by name, so we cannot tell you how a given inspector will treat a T-FOET card. OPITO designs T-FOET as the route for people with an in-date T-BOSIET, BOSIET or FOET-family certificate to refresh the same emergency skills and obtain a new certificate. Many contractors accept that, but a client that wrote T-BOSIET into its contract may want it confirmed. Ask your HSE office, in writing, whether a T-FOET certificate satisfies the clause before you plan your leave around it.
The standard also expects the contractor to keep a record of everyone at offshore locations, including their rest days between stays. In practice the person who holds that list is the mobilisation coordinator, and a certificate expiring in the middle of a campaign is exactly the problem they dread. Renewing during the onshore rest between rotations, with one day in a pool and on a fire ground, is cheaper than discovering a gap at the quay.
The helicopter side is why the pool day matters. Gulf Helicopters, headquartered in Doha, serves the oil and gas industry and, according to Wikipedia, had 30 AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters in its November 2022 fleet list alongside Sikorsky S-92 and AW189 types. QatarEnergy's own standard also expects the helideck on an offshore drilling unit to follow ICAO Annex 14 and CAP 437, with approval and inspection by the helicopter company it contracts. The escape exercises in T-FOET are the passenger's part of that chain.
Requires a valid H2S/BA certificate and a valid T-BOSIET certificate for contractor personnel travelling to offshore locations.
The training management standard and the safety training procedure for offshore personnel that the contractor standard refers to.
Contractors must keep a record of staff at offshore locations, including demobilisation and rest before they go back.
Doha-headquartered operator for the oil and gas industry; Wikipedia lists 30 AW139 helicopters among its fleet in November 2022.
They rotate to platforms on a pattern, so their certificate must be valid on every transfer day, not just the first.
If your first card was issued for a project that began then, the four years end in 2026 and the refresher is the lighter way to renew.
Their survival certificate sits beside seafarer training in the matrix, and the date is easy to miss when the vessel is on charter.
A brief campaign offshore needs the card current on the day you board, and a lapse can mean a three-day course instead of one.
They keep the certificate list and are the first to see the expiry cluster, so they can book a group before anyone is stopped.
The refresher has to match what you hold and what the client wants. T-FOET (5614) renews the tropical certificate. FOET with EBS renews the standard one, for clients who ask for it, and our team will quote its current fee. OPITO's entry rule lists an in-date certificate from the BOSIET or FOET families, and our own course page names T-BOSIET and T-FOET, so tell us exactly which card you carry. A lapsed card usually sends you back to the full T-BOSIET, which is three days at ₹35,000. The H2S/BA certificate that the QatarEnergy standard also mentions is a different product, so keep its date on a separate line of the matrix.
Your client names the standard version, or you could be moved outside warm water.
Your card has lapsed, or you are joining offshore work in Qatar for the first time.
The H2S/BA part of your clearance is due too; it is a half-day course on its own two-year cycle.
OPITO allows seven guided learning hours and requires the exercises to be built just for this product. Helicopter escape and sea survival take place in an indoor pool with a simulator, and fire work on a dedicated fire ground. Each exercise is assessed as you do it.
Ditching procedures and escape from a capsized cabin. After four years the sequence has faded for most people, so expect to rehearse it from the start.
As listed in our course outline: lifejackets, rafts and surviving in warm water. Heat is the risk you train against in the Gulf.
Fire response with handheld equipment and finding your way out when smoke removes visibility, as on an older bridge-linked complex.
Immediate care for injuries and medical emergencies until help arrives, which can be a longer wait offshore than at the plant gate.
The buyers are contractors answerable to QatarEnergy and its subsidiaries, with a mobilisation desk that holds the certificate matrix. Renewal is a planning job: find who expires in the next quarter and book them together.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Tropical Further Offshore Emergency Training (T-FOET) | Take it while the T-BOSIET is valid. Confirm in writing that your client treats the new certificate as meeting its T-BOSIET clause. |
| Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T-BOSIET) | The route if a card has already lapsed, or for new joiners. |
| Basic H2S Training | The standard names H2S/BA separately, so check whether OPITO 9014 meets the wording your site uses. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Drive to Doha, fly to Cochin International Airport (COK) and take a short road transfer to the campus on Vypin island. Doha to Kochi is a direct route of about four and a half hours.
QatarEnergy describes the industrial city as about an hour north of Doha by road. Leave early enough to clear check-in.
Three airlines appear in route listings, including Qatar Airways and two Indian carriers. India's clocks run 2 hours 30 minutes ahead of Qatar, and timetables shift by season.
A prepaid taxi or app cab covers the roughly 40 km over the Goshree bridges to Puthuval Road, Njarakkal.
India is two and a half hours ahead of Qatar. The refresher needs only one course day, so it fits inside the minimum onshore rest between stays, provided you plan the road leg to Doha and a spare hour for check-in.
Travellers on an Indian passport do not need a visa for India. Holders of other passports should check which e-Visa category applies on the government portal before buying a ticket.
Fees are in rupees for each delegate. Settle the payment route from Qatar and any bank charges with our team before you transfer, and keep the receipt.
