Contractor supervisors and foremen
They request permits for their crews and must understand hazard controls, validity periods and what happens at handover.
Qatar's two big industrial cities are operated by QatarEnergy. Ras Laffan covers about 295 square kilometres and has a port with 33 berths, a single point mooring 54 km offshore and an offshore supply vessel base. Mesaieed covers about 104 square kilometres, with a port of 30 berths and a mix of refining, petrochemicals, fertiliser, steel and aluminium. On sites like these, many contractors are working beside live plant at once, and the permit is how one crew's job is kept safe from the next crew's.
Qatar's contractor safety framework asks anyone working for QatarEnergy to follow its corporate HSE standards and the specific HSE terms of each contract. The public contractor page does not set out a permit procedure, so the detail comes from the site you are mobilised to. One advertisement for an HSE officer role at Ras Laffan asked for a thorough knowledge of the RLIC permit system and listed work permit receiver certification as preferred rather than required. That is a useful signal: knowing how permits work helps, but site approval is a separate step.
This is where the iMost course fits. It teaches the logic every permit system shares and the vocabulary the people around you will use, so you arrive able to read a hot work or confined space permit critically. It does not replace the site induction, the facility's own permit receiver or issuer approval, or any approval your client requires. If the contract names a particular card, ask the client's team which one before you book.
About 295 sq km, one hour north of Doha, with a port, supply vessel base, accommodation, a medical centre and emergency response services.
About 104 sq km on the south-east coast, with plants for refining, petrochemicals, fertiliser, steel and aluminium.
Handles LNG, other liquid products and sulphur exports and dry cargo imports across 33 berths.
They request permits for their crews and must understand hazard controls, validity periods and what happens at handover.
A site may ask for its own receiver approval. This course builds the background that makes that approval process easier to follow.
Turnaround schedules depend on permit windows, isolations and simultaneous operations, so planners who understand the permit cycle build more realistic plans.
Daily site inspections check that work matches its permit, risk assessment and method statement, which is what Module 5 on audits and reviews covers.
Electrical isolation permits sit at the centre of their jobs, and Module 3 on permit types explains how those differ from general permits.
Permit to Work teaches the system. If your day-to-day risk is a specific task, a neighbouring course may fit better or belong with it. Lockout/tagout focuses on controlling hazardous energy, fire watch on supervising hot work, and H2S awareness on the gas hazard itself. Many people take PTW first because its content ties the others together. Choose on the job you do and the wording in your client's requirements.
Your daily task is isolating and locking out energy sources rather than managing the permit that authorises it.
You are assigned to watch hot work, which is a one-day iMost course.
Your site handles sour gas. OPITO 9014, half a day, ₹12,500, valid 2 years.
You review near misses and permit breaches and need root-cause tools, half a day, ₹10,000.
The course is interactive classroom training with demonstrations and case studies. Assessment combines a written test, a demonstration and oral questioning, and the course outline aligns with international practice including ISO 45001 and OSHA. Guidance such as the UK Health and Safety Executive's HSG250 is another common reference for how a permit system should work.
Why permits exist, their key components and how hazard identification feeds them. On a plant with several contractors, this is the common ground between your crew and the next.
Who requests, issues, receives, authorises and closes a permit, and how they communicate. Clear hand-offs between these roles are central to the permit cycle.
Hot work, confined space entry, electrical isolation and general work permits. These are the permit categories that shutdown jobs in industrial cities rely on most.
Requesting and issuing, putting hazard controls in place, and permit validity and documentation. You work through the sequence from application to closure.
Legal requirements, audits and reviews, plus case studies of permit failures that show how small gaps accumulate.
Contractors on QatarEnergy-linked contracts have to show competent people, and permit knowledge is one part of that. A group booking lets a package team cover its supervisors, planners and inspectors in one trip.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Permit to Work PTW System Training | Clients commonly want permit competence from supervisors and receivers. Confirm whether an iMost certificate satisfies your contract or only supports a site approval. |
| Lockout-Tagout LOTO Training | Where isolation is part of the job, LOTO training is a natural companion to PTW. |
| Basic H2S Training | Sour-gas sites commonly ask for H2S awareness before entry. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Hamad International Airport (DOH) to Cochin International Airport (COK) is listed as a direct route of about four and a half hours. The campus on Vypin island is about 40 km from the airport. From Ras Laffan or Mesaieed, allow time to reach Doha first.
Aggregator sites list Air India Express, IndiGo, Qatar Airways and Akasa Air. Check the airline for the current schedule.
Ras Laffan and Mesaieed are each about an hour from Doha. If your flight is early, stay in Doha the night before.
A pre-booked taxi to Puthuval Road, Njarakkal, Ernakulam District, crossing the Goshree bridges to Vypin.
Because the course is only half a day, it fits into a few days of leave. Aim for the same week as a family visit instead of a separate trip.
Indian passport holders do not need a visa for India. Others should check the e-Visa categories at indianvisaonline.gov.in; the official portal lists short non-structured courses among permitted purposes for e-Tourist, but eligibility depends on nationality.
The fee is ₹10,000 per person. Confirm the currency and payment method with our team before sending money from Qatar.
Ask the client's HSE team whether an iMost Permit to Work certificate supports your role, and whether a facility approval is also needed.
A half-day course is an efficient add-on to leave, or to a three-day OPITO course. Ask our team which combinations fit current batches.
Fly DOH to COK and keep the return flexible until the batch date is confirmed.
Bring a valid photo ID and comfortable clothing, and declare any medical condition to the instructor. The assessment is a written test, a demonstration and oral questions.
Send the certificate to your HSE team and set a reminder for the two-year renewal.
