Hotel front office, housekeeping and restaurant supervisors
Guests collapse, choke, scald and slip; the supervisor on shift is usually the first to reach them.
Start with the visitors. The state tourism department's figures, reported in the press, put Goa's 2024 arrivals at about 99 lakh domestic and 4.67 lakh foreign tourists, roughly 1.04 crore in all. Margao is the commercial centre of South Goa, and the hotel, restaurant and activity staff serving that crowd handle heat, crowds, alcohol, pools, steps and sea. A guest who faints at breakfast or chokes at a buffet is reached first by a waiter or a duty manager. Cruise calls at Mormugao add another stream: the port authority's schedule listed 42 cruise ships between September 2025 and June 2026, and each call puts a shipload of passengers through the terminal.
The industrial side is smaller but real. The Verna industrial estate near Margao has been described by its industry association as having over 300 working units, and the Goa Factories Rules, 1985 shape what those units keep ready. Rule 93 sets the contents of first-aid boxes, and Rule 94 requires a posted notice listing who is trained in first-aid treatment, where in the factory each can be found, and the nearest hospital and its number. For a factory running a hazardous process, Rule 90-O goes further: for one licensed to employ up to 150 workers, it asks for at least five persons trained on first-aid procedures, with one always available during working hours, and an occupational health centre. A named person on a notice helps only on the day that person is on shift, so units look to train a wider circle.
Mining is the third setting. Goa has e-auctioned 12 mineral blocks, including Curpem-Sulcorna and Codli in the south of the state, and the Chief Minister told the assembly in July 2025 that operations had resumed at three of them with others awaiting clearances. Pits, haul roads and screening sites are far from a hospital, and mine operators follow DGMS arrangements, including a DGMS list of approved first-aid training centres. If you work at a mine, check what your operator accepts before booking; we do not claim our general certificate appears on that list.
A last point is timing. Hospitality and port work in Goa follow a seasonal pattern, so most employers will have a quieter period in which a team can travel. The practical content is the same whenever you come: breathing, bleeding, burns, heat, choking and what to do until help arrives.
About 99.41 lakh domestic and 4.67 lakh foreign arrivals, roughly 1.04 crore, per the state tourism department as reported.
The port authority's schedule listed 42 cruise ships between September 2025 and June 2026.
First-aid box contents, a notice naming trained first-aid persons, and trained persons plus an occupational health centre for hazardous processes.
Curpem-Sulcorna and Codli are among the 12 blocks e-auctioned; three were operating by July 2025.
Guests collapse, choke, scald and slip; the supervisor on shift is usually the first to reach them.
Staff work in sun, water and boats, where heat illness and injuries happen away from road access.
Passengers, drivers and cargo crews all pass through, and shifts are long and hot.
A notice may name two or three trained people; a wider group covers other shifts and the weekend.
Remote working faces need an on-the-spot response before help arrives; check your operator's own requirements first.
They are often the nearest adult to a road or gate collapse and need to manage the scene as well as the casualty.
First aid is the general emergency skill: breathing, bleeding, burns, fractures and shock. It suits mixed groups such as a hotel's duty managers or a factory's shift leads. Food safety training answers a different question about kitchen hygiene, as does fire warden training about evacuating a building. Manual handling suits housekeeping and store teams whose injuries come from lifting. The course is an iMost certificate; it does not by itself make anyone the nominated first-aider for a factory or a mine.
Your kitchens or banquet teams need hygiene and handling training rather than casualty care.
You are organising evacuation and head counts in a hotel or office block.
Your injuries come from lifting luggage, linen, stores or cargo.
Classroom teaching, instructor demonstrations, case studies and role-play make up the half day. Assessment is a written test, a demonstration and oral questioning; successful delegates receive an iMost certificate.
Why first aid matters, the legal considerations and the aims of the course. Bring the first-aid notice or box list from your own premises to compare.
Chest compressions and defibrillator use, for the guest or colleague who collapses at a pool, a bar or a berth.
Kitchen scalds, glass cuts, wet-step falls and workshop injuries are the everyday cases.
Recognising each and acting quickly, including at a crowded restaurant where the first problem is spotting who is in trouble.
The outline includes heat illness, hypothermia, frostbite and poisoning. In Goa, heat, sun exposure and poisoning are the ones you will use most.
Families, older visitors and cruise passengers are part of the picture, as are colleagues in distress after a bad incident.
Role-play and simulations: you rehearse on a mannequin and with a partner so the first time is not at the incident.
Employers around Margao include seasonal hospitality operators, estate factories, port contractors and mining companies. Each answers to a different regulator, so first ask which one decides what first-aid evidence your site must hold.
| Course | Requirement note |
|---|---|
| Basic First Aid Training | Often requested for supervisors on mixed teams in hospitality and for back-up first aiders in factories; confirm with your client or inspector. |
| Fire Warden Training | A common pairing for hotels, where evacuation and casualty care are both management duties. |
| Food Safety for Catering Training | For kitchen and banquet teams; the hygiene and casualty courses answer different questions. |
Operators and clients set their own requirements; confirm with your contract or HSE department.
Kochi is far by road, about 740 km, so for a half-day course most people fly from Dabolim or take an overnight Konkan Railway train. The campus is on Vypin island, a drive of roughly 40 km from Cochin International Airport and 15 km from Ernakulam Junction.
IndiGo lists a direct flight of roughly 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes. Weekly frequencies vary between listings, so check the airline for your dates. Dabolim is the airport nearest Margao.
An evening train such as the Madgaon-Ernakulam Superfast (10215) reaches Ernakulam Junction in the late morning next day, though sources differ on its running days. Check IRCTC for current services and allow a rest day on arrival.
Route planners put the drive at around 738 km and nearly 11 hours, which suits only a team sharing a vehicle.
From the airport or Ernakulam, take a taxi or app cab across the Goshree bridges to Njarakkal.
Choose supervisors and back-up first aiders from each shift, outlet or gate, and check your notice or first-aid plan for gaps.
Hospitality teams can use their quietest weeks; factories can use a shutdown week. Message +91 8075 787307 or info@imostacademy.in for a batch near that window.
Fly from Dabolim the afternoon before and return the day after, or take the evening train with a rest day built in.
Classroom teaching, practical drills and scenarios, followed by the three assessments.
Back at work, add the new names to your first-aid notice, pass on what you learned and diarise a refresher date.
