Bengaluru's industrial base is engineering, aerospace and electronics rather than oil and gas. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, headquartered in the city, reports over 24,000 employees across its production and research divisions, and the Peenya industrial area on the Tumkur road is one of Asia's biggest, built up from the late 1970s around engineering, electrical goods, die-casting, fabrication and rubber moulding. Chemical handling, electroplating, battery work and spray painting appear in the mix, and that is a likely reason HAZMAT features in enquiries from the city.
Karnataka also has a safety audit regime that shapes corporate demand. The Karnataka Factories (Safety Audit) Rules, 2024, notified on 1 February 2025, require internal audits every year and external audits by a certified auditor every two years for covered factories. Companies preparing for those audits tend to review first aid, emergency response and hazardous-substance handling training for staff.
Mangaluru, which redirects to this page, is a different kind of place. The New Mangalore Port at Panambur is Karnataka's only major port, declared a major port in 1974 and a crude and petroleum products hub. The Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited plant at Katipalla, an ONGC-group refinery with a design capacity of 15 million tonnes a year, started in 1988. Staff and contractors working at the refinery and the port are the people on this coast most likely to need marine and offshore safety courses. Mysuru, around 140 km southwest of Bengaluru, mixes IT and manufacturing, and its junction has rail lines to both Bengaluru and Mangaluru Central, so Mysuru travellers can join either route.
