Gold is the trade people think of first, and it is a making trade as well as a selling one. Figures collected on Wikipedia, mostly from reports of the 2000s, put about 3,000 ornament-making units and some 40,000 workers in and around the city, with most artisan units within 25 km. Treat those counts as an order of magnitude, not a current census. The fire picture is easy to describe, though. A showroom holds dense stock behind shutters, grilles and glass, and a workshop uses torches, heaters and polishing motors. Staff in both need to know how to raise the alarm, pick the right extinguisher and get customers out. That is why Basic Fire Fighting leads our list for Thrissur.
Thrissur is also the health centre of central Kerala. Wikipedia describes it as drawing patients from Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and the northern part of Ernakulam district, and lists three medical colleges here: the Government Medical College, Amala Institute of Medical Sciences and Jubilee Mission Medical College. A hospital is a building where several hundred people on different shifts must act on the same fire plan, and where some of the occupants cannot walk out. First aid and fire response are therefore daily concerns for the staff, not occasional ones.
The money side of the city runs through head offices. South Indian Bank, CSB Bank, Dhanlaxmi Bank and ESAF Small Finance Bank are all headquartered in Thrissur. Manufacturing is spread over two KINFRA industrial parks, at Koratty and Puzhakkal, and SIDCO estates at Ollur, Arimbur, Mala and Kattoor, among others. Koratty also hosts Infopark Thrissur, which Wikipedia describes as Kerala's fourth technology park, and an Ayurveda cluster inside the KINFRA park.
Culture brings its own crowds. The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, Kerala Sahitya Akademi and Kerala Lalithakala Akademi sit in the city centre, Kerala Kalamandalam is at Cheruthuruthy, and the Thrissur Pooram Exhibition fills Thekkinkadu Maidan for 40 to 50 days a year. Staff running such venues handle crowds in temporary structures, so fire awareness matters to them as much as to a factory.
The Gulf link is real too. Many families in the district have someone working there, and a few move into offshore or marine roles; see our T-BOSIET page for Thrissur candidates.
