iMost certificate course for HSE officers and supervisors in Abu Dhabi

Incident Investigation Training for Abu Dhabi HSE Officers and Supervisors

In Abu Dhabi an incident report is not only an internal document. It may feed a regulator's system, a client's review and a contractor audit, so the quality of the investigation behind it matters. This half-day iMost course teaches the investigation process and root cause methods to the people who write those reports. It is not an OPITO course.

Why investigation skill matters under Abu Dhabi's OSH framework

Abu Dhabi runs a government occupational safety and health framework, known until recently as OSHAD-SF and now called ADOSH-SF. Its manual, version 4.0 of July 2024, says the framework has detailed incident notification, investigation, reporting and recording requirements, with standard forms (G, G1 and G2), timelines for reporting, and schedules of serious dangerous occurrences, serious injuries and serious occupational illnesses that must be reported. Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre is the competent authority, and sector regulators supervise their own entities.

The framework also sets expectations about how investigations are done. Its management system elements say an entity's procedure should be consistent with Mechanism 11.0, use competent persons, be timely, determine root causes, identify corrective and preventive measures and communicate the outcome to those affected. The rules differ by entity risk classification and by sector, so check with your regulator or client which applies. That is why a trained investigator is useful: the paperwork and the thinking both have to hold up.

Energy-sector companies have a further layer. The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy ran a workshop in June 2019 on amendments to its Incident Reporting Regulations, attended by 72 energy-sector entities, and the Department of Municipalities and Transport has run sessions on the electronic system used to report accidents and submit forms. We cannot tell you which reporting route applies to your company, but we can teach the investigation skills that feed any of them.

ADOSH-SF Mechanism 11.0

The mechanism for incident notification, investigation and reporting, with standard Forms G, G1 and G2.

Element 7 requirements

Investigations by competent persons, completed in a timely way, identifying root causes and corrective actions.

Department of Energy incident reporting

Amended Incident Reporting Regulations were the subject of a 2019 workshop for 72 energy-sector entities.

Who in Abu Dhabi benefits from the investigation course

Contractor HSE officers

They draft the first report after a near miss or injury, usually within the client's reporting timelines.

Shift and site supervisors

They are first on the scene and decide whether the area is secured and the evidence preserved.

Site and project engineers

They are often asked to join an investigation team as the person who understands the work method.

Camp and accommodation managers

Incidents in labour accommodation and catering also need documented investigation.

HSE managers at ADNOC-linked contractors

They review investigations from several sites and need a consistent standard across them.

Incident investigation or another iMost safety course

Choose this course if the gap is what happens after something goes wrong: securing the scene, gathering evidence, finding root causes and recommending actions. If your teams are producing incidents because hazards are not assessed in advance, risk assessment is the better starting point. The certificate is issued by iMost and is valid for 2 years. It is not an OPITO or government-approved qualification, so ask your client or regulator if they need a specific investigator credential.

Risk Assessment Training →

Choose it when incidents keep recurring because hazards were never assessed in the first place.

Permit to Work PTW System Training →

Choose it when investigations repeatedly trace back to permit and isolation failures.

Lockout-Tagout LOTO Training →

Choose it when incidents involve unexpected energy release during maintenance.

The five modules, read against Abu Dhabi reporting

The programme combines interactive classroom work, case studies and scenario exercises. Assessment uses a written test, practical exercises and oral questioning.

  1. 01

    Introduction to Incident Investigation

Incident types, including accidents, near misses and property damage, and the legal and regulatory frameworks. Use this module to map the Abu Dhabi schedules against your own site's classifications.

  2. 02

    The Investigation Process

Securing the scene, preserving evidence and collecting data through interviews, photographs and reports. Good evidence is what lets you meet short reporting timelines.

  3. 03

    Root Cause Analysis

Techniques such as the 5 Whys and the Fishbone diagram, and the identification of contributing factors and systemic issues rather than only the person closest to the event.

  4. 04

    Corrective Actions and Recommendations

Writing actionable recommendations using SMART criteria and ranking corrective actions by risk, which suits client closeout meetings.

  5. 05

    Case Study and Practical Exercises

A group investigation followed by a presentation of the report, rehearsing the conversation you will have with a client or auditor.

For Abu Dhabi contractors and HSE departments

Training managers who buy this course are mostly HSE departments in construction, marine, facilities and industrial service companies, and contractors working under client HSE plans. We keep the claims modest: the course teaches method, and your regulator and client decide what they require of an investigator.

A half-day course and a four-hour flight

Direct services connect Zayed International Airport (AUH) with Cochin International Airport (COK) in around four hours, followed by a 40 km road transfer to the campus on Vypin island. For that reason the trip pays off mainly for a group or alongside another course.

AUH to COK, by air

Etihad, Air Arabia, Air India Express and IndiGo are among the airlines listed here, and seasonal timetables differ.

From the airport to Njarakkal

A cab from COK to Njarakkal goes via the Goshree bridges; check a navigation app before setting off.

Plan your visit from Abu Dhabi

Planning around home leave

Kochi clocks are 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of Abu Dhabi. For a half-day course, two nights in Kochi at most should do, or fit it to the edge of a leave in Kerala.

Visa and entry

Travellers on Indian passports need no visa for India. For any other passport, find the right e-Visa or visa category on the official portal.

Costs and payment

The fee is quoted per person in rupees. A UAE payment normally goes by international transfer, and our team will give you the reference to use.

Planning the course from Abu Dhabi

  1. 1

    Decide who goes

Send the HSE officers and supervisors who actually run investigations, rather than whoever is free.

  2. 2

    Add a second course

Check with our team whether a second half-day course, such as Permit to Work, can share the same visit.

  3. 3

    Bring a past report

A recent incident report, with names removed, is the most useful exercise material.

  4. 4

    Apply it on return

Use the 5 Whys and Fishbone templates on the next near miss, and note the 2-year renewal date.
