Most of the UAE's oil and gas sits in Abu Dhabi, and the working geography is spread out. Das Island lies about 160 km northwest of the mainland and carries around 6,000 oil and gas workers on rotation, with its own airport. Zirku Island, roughly 140 km northwest of Abu Dhabi city, is a processing island with a petroleum terminal and its own airport. People who work or visit these islands are the clearest case for a current T-BOSIET and a sea survival refresher.
Onshore, the Shah gas field is a different kind of risk. It contains about 23 per cent hydrogen sulfide, which Wikipedia describes as one of the most sour operational fields in the world, so H2S training here is a daily working skill and not a formality. A contractor mobilising to Shah or to ADNOC's sour-gas projects is likely to be asked about H2S awareness during prequalification.
Ruwais, in the western region about 240 km from Abu Dhabi city by road, is the industrial complex that brings refining, petrochemicals and fertiliser together, including Borouge and Fertil. Plant shutdowns and turnarounds bring in contractor supervisors, who are typically the people asked about Incident Investigation and Permit to Work training.
